Ice pick Scars
Deep, narrow scars that seem like the skin has been cut with a pointy object like an ice pick are known as ice pick scars.
They seem to form alittle however deep hole within the skin which may appear as a large, open pore.
An infection from a cyst or different deep inflamed blemishes will cause ice pick scars. The skin tissue is destroyed leaving a long column-like scar.
This type of scar will be treated through punch incision or punch graft.
Boxcar scars
They are spherical or oval incisions with steep vertical sides. These scars are wider than the ice pick scars and provides the skin a pitted look.
When acne destroys the collagen, tissue is lost. The skin higher than this area is left without support and a depression is made.
Boxcar scars will be mild to severe, depending upon the number (amount) of tissue lost.

Rolling Scars
This type of scars is usually in wave-like motion across a normal showing skin.
When the fibrous bands of tissue develop between the skin and therefore the tissue living below it, rolling scars are shaped.
These bands pull the epidermis, binding (tag) it to the deeper structures of your skin.
This pull of epidermis from inside creates the wave-like look on the skin.
These forms of scars will be treated with subcision.
Hypertrophic or cheloid Scars
This scar appears like a raised, firm mass of tissue. They usually grow larger than the original acne.
Hypertrophic scars are mostly found on the torso (body part), especially in men.
These acne scars are caused by over-production of soften scar tissue not like boxcar and ice pick scars that are caused by a loss of tissues.
These forms of scars will be treated with steroid creams or injections that facilitate shrink and flatten the scar. Interferon injections also are used for this purpose.
